This tie is a simple design for business occasions and is made from Anda-gumi, a type of braided belt made over 1,000 years ago, many of which are still extant at the Shosoin Repository in Nara. The tie shape, which widens towards the ends, was successfully created using a braided cord by using the ‘mashidama’ technique, in which the threads are gradually increased as they are braided. The braided cord tie may feel a little stiff at first, but after being worn two or three times, it becomes much softer and much easier to fasten.
